Of course, Brayden weighed 7lbs. 10oz. when he was born. He gained most of his weight back plus a few ounces at our 'next day' appointment, which was great. Then...at our 2 week appointment the pediatrician notified me that he hadn't gained any weight and had actually lost a few ounces. I was mortified. And to make it even worse...she told me I need to start supplementing formula because I obviously wasn't producing enough milk. Doubly-mortified. Insert first 'feel like a failure here' moment. I can remember it took everything I had to not break down like a crazy lady at the pediatrician's office. So, we're supplementing, I got over it as I realized it wasn't the end of the world.
Brayden is really a great baby. Pretty much from the moment we brought him home, he's adjusted gracefully. He sleeps for about 3-4 hours at a time during the night and during the day he naps on and off, but usually eats closer to every 2 hours. He does fight sleeping in the evenings because Daddy is home and he wants to stay up, so some evenings we deal with a fussy baby. I think the 2 biggest obstacles we've had to face is that he hates to poop or fart. I know what you're thinking, he's a boy...how is that possible. haha. Whelp, it is with him. I was beginning to notice that he was getting fussier, but he'd start kicking his legs and his cry would change to one that made me think he was in pain. I asked the nurse, she said it was normal. I called a few weeks later, she reminded me it was normal. Finally, last Monday I took him in just to be checked and she reminded me that it can be totally normal. (He now weighs 10 1/2lbs. YEA!!) We've just got to work through it. Eye-yi-yi! Gas drops, leg pumps, belly/back rubs. The second thing we're dealing with is heat rash and dry skin. Which is super complicated, because they suggest not to use anything that will lock moisture in for heat rash, but his skin is in dyer need of moisture. The joys of parenthood.
On a positive note, my boy is growing so fast. He's almost out of newborn clothes, which just baffles me. We had to take the 'newborn napper' out of his pack n' play because he was getting too big and just seeing how much longer he is when I change him is cray-cray! He finally smiled at me the other morning and it made my freakin' day. (Makes my every day!) I'm pretty sure he was making fun of my morning hair, but who cares. He's also trying to laugh. He usually chokes himself, but its the cutest thing. He's also starting to coo a little, which just warms my heart.
He LOVES when we read/sing to him. This was something I did all the time when he was in the womb, so I'm guessing it feels familiar to him. Thankfully he has starting liking bath-time. He'll just lay in water and is super content. He still hates for his diapers to be changed and is getting so much better at holding his little head up. We figured out the other day that he likes the vibration on his chair even more than swinging. We installed his high chair the other day so he could just sit at the table with us and he loved every minute. :)
Okay...so now prepare for photo overload. The first group of photos are from when he turned 1 month old. He's already grown so much more since then. I'm planning on taking the same pictures, in the same spot every month to see his growth. The next group is just random pictures I love. (How can you only choose a few!)
