Brayden - 6 Months!

My baby is half-a-year old!  Seriously?  We cannot believe it.  All day on September 28th Geoff and I kept telling ourselves, can you believe Brayden is 6 months old.  We went in for his check up last Monday, so here are his stats.

Weight:  20lbs. 2.4oz. - 90th percentile
Height:  27.5in. - 80th percentile

Can I just tell you how much I hate Brayden getting shots.  I HATE them.  There are not many things I hate and I try to use that word lightly because I take it very serious, but I really stinking HATE them.  I know, it's for his health and best interest, but really?  Why so painful and my poor little bug is always in a funk for a few days.  Ugh.  And I always have to go by myself because Geoff can't get the time off work.  Sigh...off my soap box now. Ha!

Other than the awful shots, by sweet boy is healthy, which of course we're so thankful for and thank God every day.  It's been a crazy month of firsts!

First and most importantly, I'm a stay at home Mommy!  I couldn't be happier and this past month has been amazing.  I feel so blessed to have the full support of my husband and my family and waking up every day knowing that I get to just focus on raising my little boy is amazing.  I'm thinking he kind of likes staying at home too!  :)

August 30th was my last day of work, so that night I told Geoff it was time to put Brayden in his crib, in his room.  I'm pretty sure this was so much harder on me then it was on him.  He slept like a champ and we really have gotten a schedule locked down with him, which has been so much easier now that I'm staying home.  He goes to bed around 7:30pm, he'll wake up around mid-night and I'll just change his diaper and he'll go right back down (usually).  Then he's been waking up around 6am or 7am for a feeding.  Sometimes he goes back to sleep for a bit, sometimes not, which is okay.  I'm pretty happy with that.  Then he'll take a mid morning and afternoon nap, between 45 minutes and 2 hours long.  Just depends.

We were feeding him rice cereal, but realized that it was constipating him, so we switched to baby oatmeal which he LOVED, but then we realized he was having an intolerance to it.  Ugh! So we moved on to veggies and fruits.  He loves peas, squash, carrots and sweet potatoes, but is not very fond of green beans (I don't blame him).  He also got bananas and apples too!  He probably made more of a sour face towards the fruit than he did the veggies.  Hopefully we have a good little eater on our hands!  I'm still nursing him about every 3-4 hours during the day and he's getting between 5-7 ounces every feeding.

Some other firsts...he can officially roll over from his back to his belly and back over.  So we have to really watch him now because he rolls all over the place.  He also got his first teeth!  He got his two bottom teeth.  He wasn't a happy camper when he was teething, so thank goodness for Hylands teething gel, really seemed to help him.  He got horrible diaper rash though...it was awful.  I felt like a horrible Mother because here I was staying home and I wasn't preventing his diaper rash...but I later found out that diaper rash can be common in teething babies as they get acidic poop.  Good to know!

Brayden was a growling machine this month and it's the cutest dang thing.  Then he moved on to this high pitched squawk...ouch!  He babbles all the time!  I've started baby sign language with him.  They say to start with just 5 signs so we're working on..milk, eat, Mommy, Daddy and dog.  They say he won't start picking them up until he's about 9 months old...but we'll see!  He can't quite sit up yet...he can do it with our help, but then topples over after a minute.  Ha! However, he is up on his knees and elbows when he's on his belly and he starts moving like he wants to start crawling!  So I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before I'll be chasing a baby around the house!  :)

Here are his 6 month pictures...they are getting so hard to take because he's so squirmy!
