We couldn't be more excited that we were chosen, again, to be parents to a beautiful baby! It was a long journey, a journey that tested my patience and tested my faith, but I just had this feeling that our family wasn't quite complete yet. I think we tried to conceive for about 2 years!! When we decided we were ready we went back to the Dr, knowing already that we'd probably need some medical help to guide us. The Dr. was pretty confident that because I got pregnant with Brayden on the 2nd round of clomid, that clomid would probably work again. Well 3 failed rounds of clomid later, they ran some tests and they all came back that I had a new disorder...(can't remember the exact name) but it pretty much means that you're infertile. I was devastated, but they referred me to a specialist, Dr. Greene at Conceptions and we re-ran all the tests. They came back that the new disorder was NOT the case, I just had a serious case of PCOS, which is what I already knew. But it was a relief honestly, to hear that news. Because I had done failed rounds of clomid already, Dr. Greene wanted to try letrozole. Tried 2 rounds of that...to no avail! UGH! (Typing this out, it seems like this happened quickly, but it really doesn't!!)
So they told me I had 2 options...ovarian drilling or IVF. We had already discussed IVF and knew that wasn't a route we wanted to go down. So ovarian drilling it was. This is a laparoscopic procedure where they go in and 'burn' cysts out of your ovaries to hopefully free up some room so nice mature eggs can form. I had the surgery in May...that took longer than expected for me to get back to feeling normal again, but we knew this was our last shot! Round 1 of letrozole produced an EGG, but not one that they thought would be mature enough. I was HAPPY, progress! Thank God!! 2nd round of letrozole, did the trick!! I remember texting Geoff saying we have an EGG to trigger, meaning they'd give me a trigger shot to make my body release the egg. 4.5ish weeks later, we found out we were pregnant!!
I had picked up a terrible head cold that I just couldn't shake, I felt terrible. Headache, exhausted, sinus drainage that I thought the sinus issue was making me super nauseous! I just couldn't pull it together, I remember Geoff asked one night if I was pregnant and I said, 'I have a head cold!' He must have sensed something. Right at the 32 day mark, I took a test, expecting a negative and saw this...
Whoa!!! I was so excited, so excited to carry another baby and so excited for Brayden to be a sibling, it was something he had talked about for so long!! Geoff was at work, so I waited until after I put Brayden to bed to tell him. I found a shirt that said 'Big Brother' on the computer and I told Geoff, 'I think we should get this for Brayden!' He was shocked! haha!
We did blood work with Conceptions and everything was looking great. So at 6 weeks I went to my appointment and saw the little nuggets heart beat, which is the best feeling EVER!
Then a couple weeks later, I went back for my 9 week appointment and this was my graduation from Conceptions. They said if all looked well, I'd be transferred back to my general Ob/Gyn. All looked great and I even got to hear the baby's heart beat.
Geoff and I had agreed that we were going to wait for the 12 week appointment before we told Brayden, so we both were chomping at the bit for that 12 week appointment. We wanted a thumbs up so we could tell Brayden!! Well on October 11th, we got it. I got Brayden a Big Brothers are the Best book, a big brother shirt and a lime to represent how big the baby was. He opened everything up and didn't have a clue what it was...but we explained and here are a couple pictures. I did take video, but it's too long to upload!
Brayden is sooo excited!! He quickly said he wanted a sister, but named 'him' 'Snickerson'. I think Snickerson might stick during the pregnancy. My friend Erin, told Brayden to make sure to give Mommy lots of hugs, because then he'll be hugging the baby. It's GREAT...I get hugs all day long. And when Brayden woke up the next morning the first thing he said was, 'how's Snickerson, did he get bigger, can I feel him move?' haha! I can't even handle it...and Brayden was so excited to tell our family members!!
Again, prayers for a healthy baby and a safe and healthy pregnancy are always appreciated. We're looking forward to this journey and adding more love to our family!!
