2012 Olympic Wrap-Up

I'm not going to even go into how long it's been since I blogged...I know!  But, you wanna know what I've been up to?  Watching the Olympics!!!  I'm going to need the next month to recover from the lack of sleep.  It was totally worth it though and it's hard to believe it's already over.  I wanted to share my top 5 favorite moments with you, trust me...it wasn't easy to narrow them down!

#5  Oscar Pistorious

Oscar Pistorious made history at the London 2012 Olympics, by being the first paraplegic runner to compete against able-bodied opponents in the 4x400 relay and the 400 meter sprint.  When they introduced him...I was so proud and I was really rooting for him, didn't even matter that he was representing South Africa.  Amazing moment that I'll never forget!

#4  Missy Franklin

I have a good feeling that this won't be the last time we see or hear about Missy Franklin.  Not only is she from Colorado, but one of my co-workers is great friends with her family, so I feel like I know her!  She was so much fun to watch and so incredibly well spoken, I had to keep reminding myself that she's only 17 years old.  And...if you haven't seen the 'Call me Maybe' parody that she starred in with the swimming team, you HAVE to watch it, here

#3  Women's Gymnastics - Team Gold

I'm pretty sure I held my breath through every performance...surprised I didn't pass out.  I was also secretly hoping that every other team would have a HUGE mistake.  Haha.  I know that's bad, but I couldn't control myself.  My heart BROKE the night before for Jordyn Wieber, so I felt like this was a redeeming moment for her.  Gymnastics has to be one of the most gruelling and difficult sports out there.  Physically exhausting, but so amazing.  Seeing Marta Karolyi after they won, was pretty amazing as well, she was so proud of them.

#2  Michael Phelps

I didn't fall into the trap of cheering for Ryan Lochte over Michael this year, I've always liked Michael and always will.  After his first 'stunning' loss of the London games I was concerned for him.  I thought 1 of 2 things could happen, he'd falter or it would light a fire and he'd finish strong, THANKFULLY it was the latter of those two.  Michael Phelps is now the Olympics' most decorated athlete ever — with a staggering 22 career medals, 18 of them gold. That my friends...is un-believe-able!  Well deserved!!

Also...a quick claim to fame.  A few years ago, Michael's Mom, Debbie was a keynote speaker at our event and I got to meet her.  She really is a sweet lady!!

Drum roll, please....And MY number 1 most memorable moment of the London Olympics goes to....

#1 Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings

Those of you that know me...probably aren't surprised.  These two women have TRANSFORMED the game of volleyball, beach doubles volleyball to be exact.  They continue to prove that they are the dominating force on the sand. I wasn't sure what to expect this year because I know they'd gotten a little older, but they only got smarter my friends.  They play such a relaxed, smart game of volleyball and that's why they're so DANG good!!  It's so sad that Misty May is saying goodbye to the Olympics...it'll be hard to watch Kerri without Misty.  So this was an EXTRA special moment.  Thank you, Misty and Kerri for representing the USA, for kicking butt and taking names and giving volleyball the recognition it deserves!

Other notable moments:
USA Women's 4x100 Relay
USA Men's Decathlon
Allyson Felix - Gold in 200M
Sanya Richards-Ross - Gold in 400M
USA Women's Indoor Volleyball - Silver
USA Men's/Women's  Basketball - GOLDen!

And just to finish it off...here's the final medal count.
